I Built in Public and Now It is Your Turn to Break It

Database Migrations, Laravel Cloud, PDF exports, and a fresh UI. Come try it and tell me what you think.

Hi Friends!

Sprint 2 is officially wrapped up in Alcove, and honestly, I am proud of how much ground we covered. We went from a basic setup to a fully functional book log, a PDF export, a fresh UI, and a real MySQL database running on Laravel Cloud. That is not a small week.

The biggest thing I want you to take away from this sprint is that things will break when you move them to production, and that is completely normal. I hit database issues during migration, debugged things I did not expect to debug, and figured it out anyway. That is the job.

I saw this joke that I now want to tell you… “Do you know why developers hate light mode?”

….

“Because it attracts bugs!”

haha! So that’s totally the reason we have a dark mode version of Alcove!

I also had the pleasure of trying out Laravel’s new cloud CLI feature; it made it extremely seamless to deploy the app)

Now here is where you come in.

I am sharing Alcove with the Reddit community this week to get real feedback from real people who have never seen it before. Fresh eyes, honest opinions, no sugarcoating. And I want the same from you.

Click on the projects tab to try out the app!

Then come back and tell me what felt clunky, what you loved, what confused you, and what you want to see in Sprint 3. Leave a comment, reply to this post, or message me directly. Every single piece of feedback goes straight into the next sprint.

Features Added in Sprint 2:
PDF Generator for Library Exports
New UI/UX Design
Progress Tracker
CRUD is finally in full functionality

This is being built in public, which means you are part of the build. Let’s make it something worth using.

See you in the next one.

Let’s Build It Beautifully,

Fab
